Determine which travel films to watch

Looking for travel films to watch during the lockdown? One of the perks of being in lockdown is all the extra time we have to do all the things we say we never had time to do before. (Say that one quickly). Yoga, baking, binge-watching the latest season of Money Heist in 48 hours.

We’re not ignoring those classic films like The Beach, Mamma Mia or Eat, Pray, Love that all did a great job of making us want to visit Thailand, the Greek Islands, or have us dreaming of finding ourselves like Julia Roberts in Italy, Bali, and India. However, here are six of our current quaranstream favorites that will help to keep your wanderlust alive – from your couch.

travel films to watch

Castaway

Destination: Fiji

Although we all feel a little like Tom Hanks right now (isolated and potentially making friends with inanimate objects), Castaway was actually filmed on a beautiful island in Fiji and was one of the reasons behind a spike in visitors to the island destination. It’s one of the best travel films to watch.

Roman Holiday

Destination: Italy

There are plenty of movies set in Rome if you want travel films to watch. Stereotypical of everything Italian – this black and white classic takes you all around Rome, showing everything this timeless city still has to offer today.

The Adventures of Priscilla

Destination: Australia

This movie showcases the iconic Australian Outback as two drag queens and a transgender woman take their eccentric act from Sydney to Alice Springs on a school bus. Who doesn’t have a road trip across Australia on their bucket list?!

The Darjeeling Limited

Destination: India

Just like in Eat, Pray, Love, the focus of this film is around three brothers on a soul searching trip across India. Imagine vibrant colored cities and spiritual enlightenment to entice you for your next travel destination.

Lost in Translation

Destination: Japan

This one is awesome when it comes to travel films to watch. How better to experience Japanese culture from your living room than by watching Lost in Translation, and pretending to visit Shibuya Crossing or sing karaoke in a Tokyo bar with Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson?

The Terminal

Destination: The Airport

We had to add this one to the best travel films to watch. Because, well, we’re all thinking about that moment we’ll be allowed back in an airport again…
